Elegant and harmonious, showing no shortage of structure, this has fine complexity, with a lingering aftertaste of berry and mineral. Best from 2015 through 2025. 4,000 cases made. BS [WE 93] [JS 93] [AG 92] [RP 91] Notes from the Winemaker: TASTING NOTES The Chianti Classico Riserva has a ruby red hue with a trace of garnet. The nose is elegant, displaying hints of spice and fruit. This is a well-structured wine with smooth tannins and a long finish VINTAGE NOTES 2010 was characterized by a fresh and quite rainy season. All phenol phases were delayed of almost 1 week. In Summer we never had very high temperatures and we never had a lack of water in the soil. The development of the plants was good and they had good quantities of fruits. Ripeness was slow and the harvest started slightly later compared to the last years. The 2010 Chianti Classico is quite pretty in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries, mint, wild herbs and licorice are some of the many layers that emerge from this finely-knit Chianti Classico. The 2010 reveals the aromatic profile typical of this high-altitude site, but with more concentration of fruit than is typically the case in a cooler year such as 2010. The Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot and Syrah, aged for 12 months in cask. Parker Wine Advocate #208 Aug 2013 Monica Larner Rated 91 Drink: Now (31) The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva straddles a fine line between modernity and traditionalism. Aromas are chiseled and defined with bold cherry, Spanish cedar, moist tobacco and pressed red flower. The fruit layering is rich, but never over-the-top. In fact, the wine feels downright elegant, tight and pristine overall. Its a pure expression of Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Castello di Volpaia is one of the banner estates of the Radda in Chianti subzone of Chianti Classico in Siena province. It is managed by the Mascheroni Stianti family: Giovannella, Carlo, Nicolo and Federica. Thanks to high-elevation vineyards, Volpaias wines are celebrated for their freshness and finesse.
